DECA's Sports & Entertainment Marketing Conference
Orlando, Florida
At DECA's Sports and Entertainment Conference Eric Marshall, Vice President of Sales at Universal Studios theme park gave students great advice for success.
1. Treat learning as a skill and practice it – technical knowledge will date, but the ability to read, respond, and adapt will not.
2. Develop a strong work ethic.
3. Do the right thing – always communicate reality, don’t make a situation worse with a lie or half truth.
4. Don’t be afraid to try – don’t be afraid to fail.
5. Learn the old school stuff – make real connections with people, occasionally use your phone as a phone, write notes, make eye contact with people, pay attention to the person in front of you not your device, be on time.
6. Find mentors and role models.
7. Ask questions.
8. Find something that you enjoy and have fun!
