Harrison DECA Chapter Wins at State Competition
Harrison High School students received top honors at the recent State DECA competition. The awards included six first place awards, five second place awards, six third place awards, and five finalist awards. The Harrison chapter was also recognized as a gold level certified school based enterprise. The Arkansas State DECA conference was held at the Double Tree Hotel in Little Rock, March 2 and 3.
The conference was designed to promote leadership skills and develop essential competencies needed in preparing for marketing, management, and entrepreneurial careers. The 500 students in attendance competed in occupational areas by taking a comprehensive written exam and demonstrating their skills through role-playing situations. The top six students in each event were called to the stage and of these the top three winners were presented with plaques.
Harrison's first place winners were Paige Tigg for the Marketing Management event, Kira Walberg and Carlie Wilson for the Entrepreneurship Promotion Project, Josh Herring and Danya Woodruff for the Learn and Earn Project DECA’s House of Grounds, and Garrett Snavely for the DECA Scrapbook project.
Harrison’s second place winners were Tabitha Goldman and Liz Tucker for the Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan and Garrett Snavely, Daniel Bettis, and Sky Friar for the Learn and Earn Project GoblinOutfitters.com.
Harrison’s third place winners were Emily Walker for the Principles of Finance event, Chelsea Chambosse’ for the Automotive Services event, and Nolanna Johnson, Tayla Lelacheur, and Kayla Wilburn for the Public Relations Project.
Finalist place awards went to Amber Phillips and Danielle Hooper for the Community Service Project, Gabe Parton for the Professional Selling event, Landon Jackson for the Sports and Entertainment Marketing event, and Carson Hinrichs for the Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan.
The first, second, and third place winners will be eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida April 24-29, 2015. The international conference will attract over 15,000 students from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and Europe. DECA is a co-curricular program of instruction designed to develop future leaders for marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
